This was one of the most amazing experiences I've ever had. Leaving was very hard because the people made me feel completely at home. The shared houses are great, and having your own room is a big plus. I had the chance to meet locals who were incredibly welcoming and kind. I was surrounded by creative people, so there was always something to do or somewhere to explore, including trips to Takamatsu and nearby islands. It was a warm, inspiring community, and I would highly recommend it to anyone looking for a memorable cultural experience. I miss them so much already! Highly recommended <3
This place is a HIDDEN GEM if you've stumbled across this!!! The location — AMAZING!! The food? AMAZING! I had a great time connecting with the locals here, and the community makes you feel so welcomed. The best part is the people here! In a matter of a couple weeks, these people make you feel like family, and make it so hard to leave!
The project was, I thought, some quiet rural English lessons and landscaping work. "Underestimation" puts it mildly. I was, as you will be, afforded so much opportunity here: speaking more Japanese with the locals than ever elsewhere; bonding with the tightest of volunteer families; trips out of the admittedly quiet Sanuki to Tsuda, Takamatsu, the islands and more; eating (and cooking!) delicious foods; total freedom to put your personality into Sanuki. I don't think I breathed for the intense positivity of my last couple weeks, and it hurt to come up for air as I finally left. ありがとー
My time at the project was just perfect :) The people working there are all really nice, welcoming and social. Everyone cares a lot about the project. You can get as involved as you would like, with a range of different tasks from event organisation and marketing to cooking and cleaning. The place also makes it easy to get to know local residents and practise Japanese. The accommodation is the best a volunteer could hope for, with private rooms in modern shared houses. Sanuki is a quiet and really beautiful place, so it is a good place to wind down. All in all, can only recommend :)
